The Cardinal Family
Our Mission Statement is to use our gifts, both individually, and as a family, to make a difference in the lives of the students and horses that come through the gates of Cardinal Ranch.
We moved onto Cardinal Ranch in 1996, got hitched and had babies. Soon after we got introduced to the Parelli Program it began to shape or personal horsemanship as well as our business. It was the perfect opportunity to combine our passion for developing horses with our love for sharing in the personal growth in our students.
Devanee’s background was a degree in Psychology with a minor in Missions, and Buddy had all the practical knowledge to keep building our ranch. As much as possible we tried to work together on the ranch whenever it was possible. We did a lot of homeschooling, while making our living with horses through guiding trail rides and horseback trips. As we progressed through our foundation in the Parelli Program we shifted to horse sales, hosting clinics, and teaching. Don and Randee Halladay were our mentors in both horsemanship and business and we are forever grateful for their encouragement and direction.
A little about our ‘not so little’ children. We are blessed with 3 wonderful and very different people. JD, our green eyed boy (the oldest), His presence adds energy and hilarious antics to every situation. He’s away much for college and other adventures, but whenever he returns the heart of Cardinal Ranch beats stronger.
Our daughter Diquita, is the heart of our hearts. She’s a horse girl with the ‘brain to train’. We love seeing her passion and knowledge taking shape. The horses are her teachers as well as many horsemen and women that we have relationships over the years. Diquita is a quiet leadership and offers a high level of feel to both her horses and the people around her.
Clay is our youngest, but might end up the biggest. Clay spends a lot of time building, running equipment and helping his Dad keep the ranch operational. Clay is kind and helpful with the horses, but he is really very much high on tech skills, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
There are many things we are thankful for, and right below Jesus and Bacon is the opportunity to live work and play on a ranch in the Canadian Rockies. We are truly living our dream.
